24 HOURS OF MAYHEM TO RAISE MONEY FOR MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT

Tim Davies from Peterborough has entered Original Source Mountain Mayhem - a 24-hour mountain biking endurance event in Hereford, which took place on 17-19 June 2011 - in a bid to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Original Source Mountain Mayhem is a challenging event, where riders have to cross all kinds of terrain over a nine-mile track, either in a team or as a solo competitor. Riders have to complete as many laps as possible in the 24-hour race to be in with a chance of winning, with most racing for a charity of their choice. There is also a prize fund for the top three riders, which entrants can add to their sponsorship money.
On taking part in the event, Tim said: “We all know someone who is directly or indirectly affected by cancer. Macmillan can make a positive and lasting difference to the support and care received by people affected.

Jene Hoare from Mold has entered Original Source Mountain Mayhem - a 24-hour mountain biking endurance event in Hereford, which took place on 17-19 June 2011 - in a bid to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Original Source Mountain Mayhem is a challenging event, where riders have to cross all kinds of terrain over a nine-mile track, either in a team or as a solo competitor. Riders have to complete as many laps as possible in the 24-hour race to be in with a chance of winning, with most racing for a charity of their choice. On taking part in the event, Jene said: “My mum has breast cancer so I am fundraising with the aim of giving £1,000 to Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
“I’m hoping to get as many people as possible to sponsor me and I hope to compete at least 15 laps of the circuit.”...

Alex Martin from Droitwich has entered Original Source Mountain Mayhem - a 24-hour mountain biking endurance event in Hereford, which took place on 17-19 June 2011

Alex is raising money in memory of Abigail Grace White, who sadly passed away this year after losing her battle with cancer. The money raised will go to local charities that help children and their parents including the Acorns Children’s Hospice Trust and the Riverbank Toy Trust Fund.

Brent Carlin from Wakefield has entered Original Source Mountain Mayhem - a 24-hour mountain biking endurance event in Hereford, which took place on 17-19 June 2011 - in a bid to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

With adrenalin-packed, family fun, camping camaraderie and the ultimate challenge for endurance warriors, it’s worth getting dirty for. It’s ORIGINAL SOURCE Mountain Mayhem, 2011.

Amateur or pro, this contest doesn’t discriminate – if you’re up for a challenge, then you’re welcome to join in the mayhem!

And if you’re not brave enough to go solo, you’re invited to participate as part of a four, five or ten-man team… and with a crowd of 15,000 spectators cheering you on, you definitely won’t feel alone in your muddy Mayhem experience.

Here’s the blog the lovely Rachel wrote after competing with Original Source at Mountain Mayhem this year...

Up until 2 weeks ago, I considered the words “bike” and “race” to be a very unlikely combination, and definitely a foreign concept in terms of my own riding experience. Some basic off-road, long-distance touring or just pottering around on the bike were well within my comfort zone, but in terms of narrow single track and night riding, I was a mere beginner.

I’ll be honest, up until the moment the competition email ended up in my inbox, I had never even heard of the event. I’d always known that 24hr races existed, but in my naivety has assumed these took place on flat floodlit courses. How wrong was I!! But as with any competition, you have to be in it to win it, and so just sent off the email thinking nothing more of it. That was however until just 11 days before the event I received an...
