Ask British Beauty Blogger Jane Cunningham a question
Hallo! I have blackheads, mostly around my nose.. some on my chin and forehead.. and I seem to have tried everything to get rid of them but nothing seems to work :0( I just turned 42 so it's not like I'm a teenager anymore!
Thanks!!
Julie
Hi Julie: okay, well as you get older, pores enlarge so it's much easier for grime to get stuck there. There isn't really anything much you can do to reduce pore size so cleansing is essential. If you are able to, I'd advise you to have a really good facial that includes 'extractions' to get your skin back to a place where you can maintain it more easily. Then, there's the thorny issue of whether to squeeze or not. Personally, I do, but always after a bath or shower when the heat has naturally opened the pores and it's much easier to give them a gentle squeeze. It goes without saying that you should never 'dig about' because it will cause inflammation and can damage the skin. Once you've given them a gentle squeeze, splash your face with cold water or use a skin-type specific toner to help close the empty pores back up again. If you can find water based cleansers, rather than cream or oil, I'd advise that - or even 'micellar waters' which are very light oil in water cleansing fluids (Darphin Azahar Floral Water Micellar Cleanser is excellent) - and that should help keep the problem at bay. Hope that helps.
