Read this blog post by keen bean biker Steve, to discover the delights (...and pains!) of the 2011 Kielder 100 mile mountain bike race 2011, a 100 mile race on unknown track in Scotland, where rain was a plenty!

I have to confess this was the race this year that both concerned and excited me the most. Riding unsupported through 100 miles of unknown track was a little worrying to say the least! I wasn't too concerned about the distance or even the amount of climbing as I've managed more in the past but I am still somewhat technically naïve and had a vision of me doing a swan dive and ending up with a wrecked bike and a long walk home.

I arrived at the campsite to be greeted by swarms of midges (welcome to mtb in Scotland) and steady rain. We quickly popped up our small tent and went to sign in and have our kit checked. I got my head down around 11 and was rudely awoken by drips of rainwater coming through my tent roof around 4am. It seems that there was a reason the kids play tent was only £8!

I guess adrenalin must have come into play as I shot up and...

Lucky Original Source Competition winner, Andrew, bagged himself a place in the Hell Up North race last weekend!  This is an inspiring blog of how he found Hellrunner and whether he'd do it all again..!

Let’s start with a bit of background here – I like bikes.  A lot.  If it’s got two wheels and handlebars, I’m either on it or planning to be on it. I’m lucky enough to work for a company which lets me ride my bike as often as I can on any sort of terrain.  So, how did I end up at the Hellrunner?

This blog post is from extreme cyclist Rosy after the 2011 Sleepless in the Saddle, 24hr cycling race!

Not quite a full week had passed since I left Catton Park having won the Thunder Run event, with a distinct feeling that I never want to do another 24hr event! The pain faded through the week and I found myself back at the scene, but this time, with my bike for round two!! I had no idea how I would cope with 24hrs in the saddle, so I pretended each lap was just a little ride round the park!

It was all going pretty well until lap 4…when the rain started! I was drenched and got very cold, but I managed to convinced myself to go out again. So, I braved it, but this was the toughest lap yet as the course was transformed into a muddy, slippery nightmare! I was ready to pack it all in and sleep instead!

After a couple of hours in my tent I decided to go out for one more lap, just to see how bad it was. I managed to stay in the saddle for another 3! Day turned into night, night turned into day and the hours ticked by! Then I was told I had moved up into 4th place so couldn’t stop before the end at 1400hrs.
